Metallic Materials

What is a metallic material?

Metallic materials are probably one of the most widely used materials through the ages due to hardness and structural strength. However, when exposed to high temperatures, they become 'soft' and can be manipulated into a variety of forms. Metallic materials are characterized by a crystalline structure in which the atoms are arranged in an orderly manner.

Metallic materials can be either homogeneous such as gold or silver or can be a mixture of elements such as those found in alloys. For example, one common alloy is brass, which is a solution of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn).
