What is a ceramic material?
All of the items above are things that come
to mind when people think of ceramic materials. Traditional
ceramics, such as these, are composed of clay and silica.
They and are usually heavy and easily broken. However in recent
years, a new breed of ceramic materials have been developed.
These advanced ceramics, such as silicon nitride (Si3N4)
and silicon carbide (SiC), are used in such things as turbocharger
rotors, engine rocker arms, water pump seals, and valve guides.
