30% of the yeast cell wall is made up of a material called glucan. Adjuvax is a glucan molecule that is manufactured in the yeast cells. The structure is poly-(1-6)-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-3)-B-D-glucopyranose. This very specific 1-3 and 1-6 linkage activates a cascade of immunologic response that promotes a higher titre of serum antibodies. Hence this is used as an useful tool for vaccines and drug delivery vehicles.
