This image was obtained using Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy. The spherical C60 molecules were deposited on a copper substrate. The molecules formed a hexagonal-close-packing monolayer.     This image is a magnification of an area in the above film. The bumpiness on the white spheres shows aspects of the carbon atoms. The square array of small dots on the darker spheres is an artifact of image processing.
